Background
Started as a natural gas pipeline company in 1984, GAIL has successfully evolved into a major integrated gas company with presence across the natural gas value chain and with global footprints.
Currently GAIL transmits more than 160 mmscmd of gas through its dedicated pipelines and have more than 70% market share in both gas transmission and marketing. GAIL is the no.1 gas utility company in Asia and No.2 gas utility company globally, 2010.
Business Requirement
GAIL needed a Legal Compliance Management Software in order to eliminate or reduce the risks arising out of non-compliances of various Central and State laws, statutes and legislations. Paper-based systems relying on managers ‘certifying’ compliance with lists of statutes are now considered poor practice.
Under Various Act, Rules and Regulations, responsibility has been vested on the Board of Directors to ensure the compliances of all the Laws. Managing Directors/Directors/Secretary are included in the definition of “officer in default” under the Companies Act,1956. Therefore implementation of a proper compliance management system is required to safegarud the interest of company officials as well as stake holders.
The Solution offered
GAIL elected to utilize Legal Compliance Management System provided by RoboticWares which effectively deliveres the need of any Listed company and also provides compliance reports as needed by SEBI under Clause 49. It makes a complex process simple and stress free and also manages all the compliance in a central location.
Implementation Schedule
- RoboticWares first identified all the operational Locations of GAIL, which are to be included for Legal Compliance System.
- A detailed research was carried on the various different operations of GAIL. It was concluded that GAIL is primarily performing the following four operations
- Petro-chemical plant
- LPG pipelines
- Natural Gas pipelines
- LPG Plant
- Based on the operations, various laws; general laws, state laws etc. that are applicable were identified.
- Research on all the relevant acts and prepare checklists of the same.
- Updates of Legal provisions as and when required are to be performed.
